I am a "well rounded web developer"
I started out as a graphic designer, so although I may be a web developer who spends most of his day in code, the graphic designer in me makes sure the sites that I build are as pretty as they are functional.
I'm usability minded, not only in the design layout and copy writing, but also in how the functionality and behaviour of the site works. When I'm using Javascript to add functionality to a page, I always make the pages gracefully decay so that the less fortunate or paranoid won't be left completely in the cold.
The focus of making sure that the site 'just makes sense' extends into the server side code that I write. Hacks and workarounds will always come back to haunt you. Build the most flexible and robust foundations now, and it will pay off in the future.
Sometimes I build sites from scratch and other times I team up with some very smart people to work on some large projects.
When I'm not nerding…
I like to get out on my mountain bike and take part in the occasional downhill or cross-country race. I have to say "take part", as I'm no fast rider, so long as I'm not last generally I'm happy.
I manage to successfully offset the benefits of exercising outdoors by being found in various comfortable bars and pubs around Melbourne. Generally with the intention of just one drink, but that can always be re-arranged.
I also, drink way too much coffee, as I firmly believe every I.T professional should. My girlfriend thinks that my iPod is full of shameful music.
